An awesome trip to the Pumpkin Patch this morning with John's school. Such excitement in the air about the new school location, the Fall season and Halloween! Now what should we do with all these little pumpkins.

She's always been last on the totem pole. Even when Norman was around, she was last as he made his presence known. She's always waiting for something...food, her nails to be trimmed, a way overdue trip to the vet. I think she's tired of being last.

If you come to my house and want to borrow a tupperware, it'd be a good idea to wash it first. Why? Because this mess happens every day. Several times a day. And many moons ago when John first did it I would wash everything each time. Now? I wash when I need to use something. Usually. Sometimes. Ok, occasionally.

While most of the time it drives me absolutely batty, I'm amazed at how much fun a wooden spoon and some tupperware can give both boys.

Downloading and backing up images from yesterday's photo shoot and this one made me smile.

When I photograph families my goal is to capture the little moments. The role of parenting is made up of millions of these moments, most of them lost until something jogs our memories and it comes rushing back to us. When Lee Anne and Pete look at this picture in 10 years, I hope they remember the sweet, barreling energy of MG and the full heart of EJ. It was an honor to capture the love of this dear family.

#14 of 37 things to do in my 37th year: Connect more with my family.

A wonderful, relaxed afternoon spent with family. It was exactly what we all needed.

We had our parent-teacher conference today. We so enjoyed listening to Marguerite talk about our sweet, thoughtful boy. He's contemplative. He's smart. He's funny. He's nice to everyone. He's positive. He is, in a nutshell, a delight.

Found this on my camera today. It just might be my favorite photo of them together. Thank you Jana.

Today I was off. Maybe it's that I'm overwhelmed. Or that I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Or that I feel behind.

Could be that I'm just too busy and need to recharge. Regroup. Re-something-or-the-other.

I did cross something super important off the list. Owen and I went to the hospital to get his blood drawn today. It was a piece of cake. Why was I so stressed about this task?

Owen is sleep regressing.

He, as captured above squealing in delight about something, isn't phased at all.

Too bad I don't feel the same way.

YAWN.

The dialogue in my head since last night's school Board of Director's meeting:
  • This is absolutely crazy. We're starting a school.
  • How are we going to raise $75,000 by Christmas.
  • wow! These families are so devoted to this mission.
  • I sure hope the IRS accepts our 501(c)3 application.
  • God is so faithful.
  • Why is this so hard? I sure hope it's worth it.
  • How awesome is it that we are two months into the year and have not had to take any money from our nest egg.
  • I sure hope we pass the October 17 vote at the new church.
  • and on and on and on and on......

Task #4 from Merrill:

Move that body!

Everyday.

What? Everyday? Is she crazy? Turns out, she's not. 11 days into moving that body I'm feeling loads better.

With the exhaustion that has accompanied this past year, I've found exercise to be next to impossible. I've missed feeling strong and the energy that comes from exertion and breathing fresh air.

Thank you Owen for finally letting me get REM sleep and waking just once a night to eat. Thank you Merrill for getting me moving. Thank you Jeff for, well, everything.

It was moving day across the street.

Can't believe we moved here 8 1/2 years ago. Seems like yesterday and also forever ago.

I wonder when we'll be hiring a moving van again or whether Robin Road is where we'll always stay.

Those dreaded soccer socks.
I was so glad it was Jeff's turn to wrestle them on for today's Monarch soccer game. The boy's thought it was hilarious that Daddy was so frustrated with them. I just enjoyed listening to the laughter.

"Grandma! You're 68 today!"

He said it like she had won the lottery - as though turning 68 is THE. BEST. THING. EVER.

I think he's right. 68 is going to be AWESOME!

Happy Birthday Mom!

Book those tickets to Roma! Arrivederci America, Buongiorno Italy!

It has taken me 4 years 2 months and 11 days to convince John to eat pasta. Lately I've told him that we can't go to Italy until he starts eating pasta. Maybe that worked or the fact that his brother loves pasta or that his Dad just came home from Italy. I don't care, I'm just thrilled he's eating it.

I love this stage.

He's happiest playing with everyday objects. Whenever I'm in the kitchen (which is frequently) he loves to play with the tupperware, mixing bowls and wooden spoons. It's awesome. Except that I'm constantly stepping over him and his stuff to get anything done in my small kitchen.

These two just can't get enough of each other. They both think the other is the funniest thing ever. Tubby time is loud and usually involves a gigantic mess of water. I hope they always feel this way.

Owen loves to attach himself to a particular item each day. Usually it is a utensil from John's little kitchen, sometimes it's a ball. Today it was a ladle. He carried it everywhere pounding it on various surfaces (and people). He alters his crawl - sort of a tripod scoot - so that he can carry his favorite objects. It's a hoot!

I came home from the shop today to find this. It filled my heart with joy to see so much love sitting there on the hammock.

And, yes Owen is topless.
