Interests come and go with kids (heck with adults, too)! Lately, the trains have been abandoned for newer more exciting interests: Barbies, Lego's, engineer building sets, etc. We have invested a lot and have two big train bins: one with the original wooden and another with the Take-Along sets. I was happy when Logan asked me to help him build, "The super biggest track of all in his bedroom."

Just call him Mr. Happy with that big smile on his face! Logan got to "be the teacher" and call on his classmates to wash their hands for morning tea, since I was the parent volunteer for the day. I love spending time in class with the kids and today brought a map of America for their classes to follow our journey. In the morning, I had a talk with the Kindy kids, which included some counting and pointing at the map. During the afternoon, I visited with the Year 2's before writing time and we talked about our trip home, before writing about traveling. It was a great day that made me reminiscent of my years teaching...

Say it with me, "I am a robot! I am a robot!" Apparently, it's Halloween in June at our house and my ambitious, craft loving son is ready to celebrate! All day long, he kept telling me that he was ready for Halloween and asking when it was. My answer was on repeat, "Not until we get back from America in several months." He is a obsessed with cutting and wants to practice all the time! The hole he's looking through (crying, since he couldn't get out to the boxes) was supposed to be for his arm; however, I talked him into a modification after he could only poked his hand through :)

Rufus and his journal needed to go back to Logan's Kindy today; however, I couldn't get my boy to complete the journal over the weekend. Thankfully, this morning he was in a good mood and happy to complete the assignment. We pasted in a few pics from Rufus's visit and then Logan drew a couple of pictures to go along with them. He cracked himself up drawing, "Rufus being silly!" and did some good work. These pics are "keeping it real" and show the mountains of folded laundry on my dining table - at least it's folded - gotta love that!!!

This weekend, Perth hosted the annual 4WD Show. Logan was lucky enough to go with Daddy on Sunday for a few hours. They took Rufus (a dog from Logan's class for a journal project) with them to enjoy the fun. Pics by Chad - thanks, honey!

My poor, sad, hurt boy :( He is often the victim of little Leila's attacks! Today, he was hiding from me under a blanket in the living room and she knew he was there. Soooooo, she ran over, jumped on the pile, and bit down hard on the first thing she found - his nose! OUCH!!! Thankfully, the teeth marks disappeared pretty quickly; however, the Rudolph nose remained behind. To distract him, I asked if I could take a picture to show Daddy later and it worked. By the last picture he was calm and almost forgot the pain!!!

I must confess, I am happy that today is (almost) over! Logan was not feeling well today and ran a low-grade fever: he barely ate, drank a little, and stayed in this location for most of the day :( Leila was miserable, too, with a cross between teething and her allergies. She coughed most of the day and cried on & off all afternoon/evening... Some days, bed time cannot come soon enough, the silence and time without my two-year-old appendage is priceless.

Today, I had a decision to make: gym for me or gym for the kids. Guess it's obvious which option won?!? We met up with some of Logan's Kindy friends at Jungle Gym for the their Open Gym time. The kids had a blast and I had a blast watching (and photographing) them ;)~ We'll definitely go again!

Today was another "Mommy & Logan" day and we had a great time together! We went to the park and he willing (for the most part) participated as my "model" during the playtime, so I could practice taking pictures outside and using the sun to my benefit (plus, I played around a bit with perspective). All of this just adds to my preparation for a friend's wedding that I am photographing in October. It's in the afternoon and outside, so I anticipate that the sun and shadows could be either my worse enemies or best friends!!!

In preparation for my first official "gig" as a wedding photographer in October, I've been reading a few books and playing around with settings on my camera. Taking a break from my friends week, I turned the flash off and tried to get some good close-ups on the kids. From what I could tell on my view screen, the shots were clear; however, they were not really sharp :( I read after these pictures a suggestion to zoom in on the screen to be sure the image is good, before moving on to a new shot. Something I did not do ... live and learn ... that's why I'm practicing now!

The focus of these two shots are their "boo boos" - Logan's bruise under his eye and Leila's fat lip. It's always amazing how many bumps and bruises kids have! I'd imagine even if we lived in a padded home, they'd figure out a way to get roughed up - LOL!

There have been several times over the last few days (well, honestly, seven plus years) when I've thought, "Parenting is hard!" However, a little break away on a Saturday night and a peek into their bedrooms upon return reminds me that they will not be this young for long. Aaaaawwwww ... the beautiful silence of sleep :)
Since Leila sleeps without light, she missed out on a picture tonight! I keep trying to convince the other two to turn their nightlights off before bed, but they think they "need" them and freak out if they wake up to it dark. Hopefully, I can phase them out soon, so they can have complete darkness for a fully recuperative sleep each night!!!

It takes a lot of patience, but I love cooking with the kids. Logan insisted on helping me peel the carrots and has an interesting backhanded technique that I had to get a picture of ;)~ Can you see the bit of carrot in flight by his arm?!? I was happy to catch that! He was very proud of his improvements with each carrot, since he figured out how to turn the carrot around to do the other half. Needless to say, it was a big mess to clean-up, but totally worth it!

This year, I've made a point of spending special alone time with Logan before he is in school five days a week. It has been great for us and I think he is really thriving from the attention. We don't feel the stereo-typical "Middle Child Syndrome" will apply to him, since he is the only boy in the middle of two girls and has a lot of attention given to him because of that; however, he sometimes gets lost in the shuffle and trumped by his overbearing sisters (LOL)!

Today, I wanted to do something different and extra fun for him! So, we drove to the train station and took the train south for morning tea. He loved every part of it (especially when he got a new Lego Ben 10 toy) and has been begging to do it, again, already! Other things that we've done are making a display to hang artwork from, watercolor painting, & go to the movie theater. Plus, lots of extra cuddles :) I have a lot of other plans lined-up for the next few weeks.....

Here the kids are doing a science experiment (camera obscura) that they learned watching a VHS tape of "Beakman's World" that Daddy bought years before we had kids. Chad reminded me the other day how long ago he bought the tape in hopes that his kids would love it as much as him. Of course, they do!!! They show it to all of their friends and want to recreate every experiment on the show :)

Here is the DVD version of it at Amazon - The Coning family highly recommends it!

This picture is (a censored version of) what you get when the boys are alone with the camera! Logan had a boo boo and needed a band aid, so Chad took him inside to get one. When I came in the house with the girls, he laughed and said, "Check out your camera! I had to get a picture of it..." Of course, there are about twenty in the series and a few of them are straight forward middle finger action! BOYS!!!!

It was a busy day Friday (that's why I'm finally posting on Sunday night) with a birthday lunch for a friend and then the afternoon up at school for Mother's Day Tea. There will rarely be pics of me on here, so I thought that would share one from lunch today taken by Simon. Here I am with Sam, Kristy, Annette, Brooke (BD girl), Sarah (Host) right before we splurged on yummy cakes :)
At school, both Lynsie and Logan's class hosted a Mother's Day Afternoon Tea for us. There were handcrafted presents, singing, eating, drinking, and socializing. Tons of fun! One of the moms from Lynsie's class took our picture and I snapped a self-portrait with Logan :)
Leila was with me during all of this and was miserable to share the attention - LOL! She is coming down with a cold and wanted to be carried all afternoon. Hopefully, she will feel better soon!

Pee-A-Boo - I found you, Logan! I love it when our kids play together :) They are really into building forts and playing hide 'n seek. It is the sweetest thing when they include Leila, who is just a little too young to completely understand the concept of not wrecking the forts and hiding quietly. I know they all love each other so much and hope they continue to be there for each other...

The engineering toy that Logan is intensely playing with has been the best investment. "Build Its" (as they are officially called by the kids) are a hit with all ages and genders. Santa brought a starter set two years ago and several big sets this past Christmas that have been played with daily. In this picture, Logan is showing me his "gaming seat" that he built before school and continued to play with in the afternoon. Sometimes I wonder where he gets such creative ideas?!? It's my goal to keep encouraging him to come up with more!

To be fair, today had to be Logan's day, since the girls have had individual shots up :) I totally snuck this picture in, the first one I took today, so no one knew I was coming with the camera - LOL. He is watching cartoons and enjoying "Morning Tea". It seems silly to say, even though I would love a house full of boys, that I am so happy I have just one ... my boy! He knows it too and we have a beautiful relationship. He is so loving and knows how to melt my heart.

Lynsie - 7 1/2, Logan - 4 1/2, Leila - 23 months

I thought that I would start with a picture of my babies, since I want to see how at day 365 they have grown and changed. Lately, I feel as life is passing by too quick and I don't spend enough time appreciating their blossoming personalities :) Hopefully, documenting daily life for the next year, will help me embrace these moments and laugh-off life's little nuisances more!
