Grateful that he had such a fun soccer season, though I think he liked the post-game Einstein's bagel more than the game itself. Love this little dude.

He loves mirrors and today I caught him kissing himself in the mirror. Such fascination I don't want to forget.

And found these gems on my camera today. Thank you Jana.

A playdate with 3 of John's school buddies. I had a car full of kids, that's for sure. I was a little nervous having them all over, but boy were they were an absolute delight.

We try to stay for Chapel on Wednesday's when we drop John off for school. It's a beautiful moment of singing, sharing and a sweet message. Today it was just what I needed.

Just arrived and he can't believe all there is to do at the festival.

Face painting!!!! He was so upset when he had to take it off at the end of the day.

Cheesy smile from the photographers kid.

October 25, 2010

John was so excited to dress up for the Fall Festival at school today. What a fun, fun day filled with games, prizes, and food. John made an excellent Woody.

And his costume turned out pretty great!

He collects them at school. Treasures, he calls them. Each day he collects a small stash of them in his backpack. He loves to sort them by color or shape and spends a little time each day creating art with them.

Mom! Mom! I got a blue santa today! I've been searching for a blue santa FOREVER.

Now I just have to keep them out of Owen's hands and mouth.

#14 of 37 things to do in my 37th year: Connect more with my family.

A wonderful, relaxed afternoon spent with family. It was exactly what we all needed.

We had our parent-teacher conference today. We so enjoyed listening to Marguerite talk about our sweet, thoughtful boy. He's contemplative. He's smart. He's funny. He's nice to everyone. He's positive. He is, in a nutshell, a delight.

Found this on my camera today. It just might be my favorite photo of them together. Thank you Jana.

Task #4 from Merrill:

Move that body!

Everyday.

What? Everyday? Is she crazy? Turns out, she's not. 11 days into moving that body I'm feeling loads better.

With the exhaustion that has accompanied this past year, I've found exercise to be next to impossible. I've missed feeling strong and the energy that comes from exertion and breathing fresh air.

Thank you Owen for finally letting me get REM sleep and waking just once a night to eat. Thank you Merrill for getting me moving. Thank you Jeff for, well, everything.

Those dreaded soccer socks.
I was so glad it was Jeff's turn to wrestle them on for today's Monarch soccer game. The boy's thought it was hilarious that Daddy was so frustrated with them. I just enjoyed listening to the laughter.

"Grandma! You're 68 today!"

He said it like she had won the lottery - as though turning 68 is THE. BEST. THING. EVER.

I think he's right. 68 is going to be AWESOME!

Happy Birthday Mom!

These two just can't get enough of each other. They both think the other is the funniest thing ever. Tubby time is loud and usually involves a gigantic mess of water. I hope they always feel this way.

I came home from the shop today to find this. It filled my heart with joy to see so much love sitting there on the hammock.

And, yes Owen is topless.

Vacation Day 3

  • After getting up several times with Owen, who is most certainly in the midst of a sleep regression (though I don't think I can call it that if his sleep has never really progressed), Jeff let me sleep in a bit.
  • Jeff woke up with the children and went into Basalt to find me a copy of the New York Times - a pre-birthday gift. Yay!
  • This morning we drove into Basalt to the farmers market and purchased a few goodies including squash blossoms. Jeff is going to stuff and bake them for my birthday dinner tomorrow.
  • I'm beginning to feel the altitude - shortness of breath, tired.
  • We took a walk in the neighborhood. Jeff & John saw a fox.
  • John discovered trout in the pond and is now feeding them crumbs. He spent most of his day hanging out in and around the stream. I think he'd be perfectly content if we spent the entire week at the house.
View from the yard:

John is loving the one on one time with his grandparents. He really enjoyed "fishing" and used rocks as bait to catch the fish.

A perfect moment:

Vacation Day 2 -
  • Surprise, surprise. We all woke up early. Owen was up FOUR times over night (which meant I was up FOUR times). John got up for the day at 5:30 and Owen at 6:30. Not too shabby considering the time change.
  • We headed to the Saturday market in Aspen and returned with quite the bounty - fresh cheese, cherries, peaches, apricots, bread and more. Yummy!
  • Owen spent a lot of time hanging out on the porch playing with his toys. Thankfully he's not crawling yet.
  • I spent a lovely afternoon lounging, napping and reading.
  • Owen tasted non-puree'd food for the first time - Rice Crispies. He was mesmerized.
  • John played in the stream for hours. HOURS. He was thrilled to be able to spend all day with his Daddy. How awesome.

Vacation shopping checklist for John:
shoes
sunglasses
hat

Mission accomplished.

AND we got yogurt and discussed favorite cars, what types of cars are no longer manufactured and whether his favorite car should be a pontiac gto or a honda civic.

July 1

It's been a long, long week. I've been nearing the end of my energy rope with Jeff out of town for the week. With the goal of getting both babes in bed before 7:00, I decided to attempt a dual bath for the first time. Owen thought it was the coolest thing ever. John seemed a bit peeved that he didn't have the space too himself. I didn't much care what either of them thought as long as I met my goal (which I did).

June 28

John took a big nap today. Owen took a tiny nap this afternoon. Bizzaro.

John is getting to be a full blown kid. It's mind numbing. Sometimes I'd just like for time to stop for a moment so I can memorize this time. I find myself hardly remembering when John was Owen's age.

In other news, these two are going to be fast friends just like their big siblings.

This job? The one with no pay where you are on call 24 hours a day, you sleep in 2 to 3 hour spurts, you often feel like a Mac truck ran over you on a daily basis and have to beg for someone to say please and thank you. This job?

SO. WORTH. IT.
